silicon implementation

On the silicon level, a laser diode is a p-n junction with two parallel faces which form an optical cavity. Two more rough and nonreflective surfaces form the sidewalls of this optical cavity. Current is fed through the junction via a wire lead and a larger plate, which also functions as a heat sink.
